Car Tune Up: How Much Will It Cost?

Is it possible for your auto mechanic to give you an estimate for the cost of a car tune up? It can be a difficult job as there are many factors to consider when estimating the cost. If you are comparing quotes for a tune up from several different auto shops, make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

If you are looking for Tune up Car Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our wentland Diesel Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR . Meet our Vehicle Maintenance Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

Make sure you know the answers to these three questions:

#1 – What does the shop include in their "tune up package?"

The quote from an auto shop that includes the price of a fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, PCV filter, and distributor ignition rotor, plus all applicable labor charges will be considerably higher than another shop that may only replace spark plugs as their "tune up" service.

#2 – Is labor included in the quote?

Or, does the quote only include parts and supplies? A local independent shop could be using a different guide to estimate labor and parts than the guide used by a dealer for a brand-name part. These guides could also classify a car tune up differently, as well as recommend different replacement schedules for specific parts.

#3 – Is a tune up really necessary at this time?

Make certain that your vehicle actually needs a tune up. A poorly running car does not necessarily mean a tune up will fix the problems. New cars are complex, full of computers and sensors that can cause it to act strangely. Before doling out the money for what could be an unnecessary tune up, ask your mechanic to run a diagnostic test to determine a potential problem before handing over the money for what could be an unnecessary tune up.

Diesel Repair: DPF (aka Diesel Particulate Filter) Part II

We are continuing with the theme of diesel particulate filters. In Part I we discussed the purpose of DPF and how it must meet the industry standard emissions regulations. More diesel service centers are finding that drivers are in need of diesel repair for problems created by a disengaged DPF.

If you are looking for Diesel Fuel Injection Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our wentland diesel Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR Shop. Also find Car Maintenance Milton-Freewater OR to keep your car up to date.

To help diesel vehicle owners understand the importance of the DPF, here is a brief explanation as to how the DPF works to control exhaust emissions.

Active vs. Passive -- Manufacturers use one of these two approaches to regenerate DPFs.

Passive Regeneration: Passively regenerating DPF systems are commonly found in the retrofit marketplace for construction equipment. In these applications, the vehicle's duty cycles and temperature profiles can be observed prior to filter installation. Passive systems rely on precious metal-coated substrates to heat the normal exhaust flow to temperatures that trigger regeneration. Although more sensitive to duty cycle and temperature, once installed, these DPF systems are considered to be more user friendly, as they do not require fuel additives, have no moving components, and only need to be serviced for annual cleaning.

Active Regeneration: Light diesel trucks have very different duty cycles. Active regeneration is employed when the exhaust temperatures are too irregular for a passive system to regenerate consistently. Active regeneration is accomplished by changing parameters in the engine to increase the exhaust temperatures in the DPF. This requires precise knowledge of engine parameters and access to the engine control unit. Because of this, the engine management approach is performed by the OEMs that have direct access and control over their engine design. Among the active strategies used are: late or post-injection of fuel into the combustion chamber, changes to the turbo boost, changes to the EGR valve, intake air throttling, and retarding the injection timing. All these methods can raise the exhaust temperature, but they also have negative impacts on the vehicle's fuel economy, power, and engine wear.

Filter Regeneration vs. Cleaning: Every DPF has what's called a wall-flow filter positioned in the exhaust system. As the exhaust gases pass through this filter, emissions of particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons are trapped in the filter and reduced by more than 90%. This trapped diesel particulate matter settles inside the filter walls until temperatures reach levels that allow for combustion. The process of combusting these trapped particulates without an intolerable buildup of engine backpressure is called filter regeneration. The process of cleaning the DPF involves taking the filter out of the exhaust system and putting it in a special cleaning chamber.

For more questions about the purpose of the DPF, and for any problems it may cause, be sure to ask your diesel repair specialist.

Engine Repair: DPF (aka Diesel Particulate Filter) Part I: A Ticking Time Bomb!

Many vehicle owners don't give much thought about engine repair until they start to notice problems in their vehicle's performance on the road. These problems include the issue of emissions control. No one has ever said, "I wish this air was a little less clean." But some diesel vehicle owners are known to remove or tamper with their diesel vehicle's exhaust particulate filters. Because of this, vehicle emissions regulations have become stricter as time goes by. That means all newer diesels (2007 and newer) sold for on-highway use are required to have functioning emissions equipment. However, auto shops are reporting that they are seeing more and more owners of diesel vehicles coming in for engine repair because they have either removed, or tampered with the exhaust particulate filter.

If you are looking for Automotive Air Conditioning Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR shop .Meet us for Engine Repair Milton-Freewater OR to have safe driving.

History Is Repeating Itself

In the 1960s, automotive emissions were nearly unregulated. In order to reduce air pollution, America decided to mandate vehicle tailpipe standards that were radically cleaner than before. The new laws didn't specifically require manufacturers to add catalytic converters and air injection systems—but that's the technology automakers chose to meet the new standards. Back then, vehicle enthusiasts felt wronged by the new hardware that showed up under their cars. They complained about reduced fuel economy, overheating, too much complexity, and poor vehicle performance. The catalytic converters, EGR components, and air pumps made working under the hood much more difficult—so hard-core enthusiasts ended up removing them.

But then what happened? Those same diesel vehicle owners were scheduling an engine repair or a more major engine rebuild, including the diesel particulate filter (DPF), to take care of engine performance problems. A wise vehicle owner will find out what the DPF does, and what it costs to replace before tampering with it.

What is the role of the DPF?

All engines emit pollutants (i.e., chemicals and compounds created by our vehicles that end up in our air that shouldn't otherwise be there) into the air we breathe. To reduce the amount of these pollutants, newer diesel engines have been fitted with a filter in the exhaust pipe to capture soot particles. This matrix of materials (a composite of cordierite, silicon carbide, or metal fibers), called a diesel particulate filter (DPF), traps the particulates (soot) flowing out the exhaust pipe. DPFs capture soot until they fill up and create too much backpressure. At that point, DPFs can regenerate (clean) themselves in one of two ways: active or passive.

Watch for Part II coming soon in which we will describe Active and Passive Regeneration in more detail.

Need Brake Repair? Please Stop!

As most vehicle owners know, fully functioning brakes are vital to safety when driving. Your vehicle's brakes work hundreds of times a day without any thought from you. Eventually, they will wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice any problems until something happens (i.e., you're involved in a fender-bender or collision). Hopefully, you know your vehicle well enough that you can tell if something isn't quite right before that happens.

If you are looking for Brake Replacement Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR shop . Meet us for Brakes Milton-Freewater OR to have safe driving.

Will a simple brake repair, such as turning the rotors, take care of the problem, or is a full brake replacement necessary? Neglecting regular service can lead to increased brake repair costs, or worse, no brakes at all. Fortunately, paying attention to a few warning signs can keep you stopping when and where you want to, and not in the back of the car that's in front of you.

What are the signs indicating that your brakes are wearing out?

    * the brake dashboard light glows amber, indicating problems with the anti-lock brake system (ABS)
    * the brake dashboard light is red, indicating a system imbalance
    * the brake pedal is spongy or slow to respond
    * you hear grinding or constant squealing during braking
    * The steering wheel wiggles in your hands when you come to a stop.
    * It takes a longer time and distance to stop than it used to

If you're jerking or grinding to a halt rather than gliding to a smooth stop, you will probably be spending your hard-earned money on possible towing and brake repair bills. How do you keep your vehicle stopping smoothly and safely where you want it to?

    * Keep up with regular brake service
    * Pay attention to the signs of failing brakes

Car Battery Replacement: Need a Charge?

Most drivers know that a car battery is vital to the proper performance of their vehicle. Even though it seems fairly basic and simple, it is helpful to know how a car battery works. Even with good maintenance, your vehicle may require a car battery replacement before you expect it too. Be prepared--learn how to keep your car battery charged through the cold winter months ahead.

If you are looking for quality Engine Service Milton-Freewater OR than find our Wentland Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR Shop. Meet our Car Battery Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

Remember these tips for the best cold-weather performance of your car battery and avoid an inconvenient and premature car battery replacement:

    * Make sure your vehicle has a battery with the right Group Size and sufficient cranking power, and of a good quality.
    * Because some corrosion can't be seen, have your car battery checked by a professional. They should also inspect the battery cables, posts, and fasteners to ensure the cables are in good shape and secured firmly to the battery.
    * Change the oil in your vehicle about every 3,000 miles (or as recommended in your owner's manual).
    * Have your car battery tested at every oil change
    * Prepare your vehicle for winter by having preventative maintenance inspections and repairing any problems without delay, including a car battery replacement.
    * Every six months, have your vehicle's starting and charging systems inspected.
    * Keep your car batter in good condition with a charger to maintain charge levels.

A car battery must be in good condition internally in order for it to function correctly. It works together with the connections that feed the current to the vehicle's electrical components. If you have determined that the alternator is still working properly, chances are a car battery replacement is needed, especially if the electrical system isn't working properly or inoperable altogether.

Heading for a potential car battery replacement? Auto Repair Shop Offers Biodiesel Basics 101!

There are many contradictory opinions about the use of biodiesel fuel. Diesel engine specialists agree that biodiesel is a renewable and alternative source of fuel that is easy to produce and less expensive to use than traditional diesel fuel. If you have questions about using biodiesel fuel, be sure to ask the auto repair professionals at your auto repair shop for advice. But also be sure to do some research of your own.

If you are looking for quality Tune up Car Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Shop Milton-Freewater OR .Meet our Car Battery Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

Biodiesel Basics 101:

While the performance of biodiesel is still under study, it is safe to say that good-quality biodiesel fuel generally performs well in engines. Here a few points offer by an auto repair shop to keep in mind when talking to your auto repair experts about biodiesel:

    * Engine Wear: Short-term engine wear is less than that of petroleum diesel. It is expected that engines will experience less wear in the long run as well after further long-range research.

    * Engine Exhaust Emissions: Biodiesel results in much less air pollution due to its higher oxygen content and lack of both "aromatic compounds" and sulfur. The one exception is nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, which tend to be slightly higher. This problem can be minimized with proper tuning of the engine.

    * Cold Weather Performance: Performs in cold weather similar to petroleum diesel. The use of flow-improving additives and "winter blends" of biodiesel and kerosene has proved effective at extending the range of operating temperatures. Pure biodiesel tends to operate well at temperatures down to about 5°C. Winter blends have proved effective at temperatures as low as -20°C and below.

    * Engine Power: Power and torque tend to be 3-5 percent lower, due to the fact that biodiesel fuel has less energy per unit volume than traditional diesel fuel.

    * Fuel Efficiency: Tends to be slightly lower due to the lower energy content of the fuel. Typically, the drop-off is the in the same range as the reduction in peak engine power (3-5%).

    * Deposits and Clogging: Generally traceable to biodiesel that is either of low quality or has become oxidized. If using a high-quality biodiesel, deposits should not be a problem.

Note to Remember: It is important not to confuse the performance of high-quality biodiesel with the performance of low-quality biodiesel. Proper fuel quality and care are vital for all engine fuels, not just biodiesel!

Your Vehicle Reach The Boiling Point? It May Need Radiator Service!

If you haven't already done so, now is the time of year to take care of a radiator service to make sure the systems of your vehicle are in good working order before the cold temperatures of winter arrive. Don't let your vehicle reach the boiling point before taking care of a needed radiator repair.

If you are looking for Reliable  Brake Repair Milton-Freewater OR than find our Wentland Automotive Repair Milton-Freewater OR shop. Meet our Radiator Repair Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

To help prevent an overheating engine, here are two things to check out:

    * What is the coolant/antifreeze ratio? Remove the radiator cap (after the engine has cooled down), and look inside the radiator. Can you see the fluid? If you see any obvious loss of fluid on the ground or in the engine compartment, there could be a leak. If you have to add more than a pint, don't delay in scheduling a radiator service to have the cooling system pressure tested.

    * Under what condition does the overheating occur? If you have already determined that the level of fluid is correct and that there is no leak, note the times "when" the overheating actually occurs. This will help the mechanic pinpoint the possible cause of overheating.

At Idle: Are the fans working properly? Most cars have a motor fan which is responsible for engine cooling, especially at stops and low speeds. If your car has an air conditioner condenser fan, the air conditioning compressor will require the cooling fan to operate at idle or low speeds as long as the compressor is on.

At driving speed: Is there enough hot anti-freeze circulating? Airflow and coolant circulation are crucial at 55 MPH. The water pump should be circulating a large amount of hot antifreeze throughout the cooling system. If overheating is occurring while driving at normal speeds, check for a restriction in the system like a kinked radiator hose, or a stuck thermostat.

Airflow in the radiator is crucial as it is the primary heat exchange for the engine. If airflow is restricted, your car will overheat. To prevent a major radiator repair, or more extensive damage to your vehicle, head for your local auto shop as soon as possible for a radiator service.

Brake Replacement Required? Check the Brake Rotors!

The action of stepping on the brake pedal is something many drivers do hundreds of time a day. This action creates energy, which is then converted into friction and heat which works to slow your vehicle, eventually bringing it to a complete stop. This presumes that all of the components of your braking system are working efficiently. As the pads clamp down on the brake rotors over and over, this friction and heat can wear the rotors down to their metal surface. After a period of time, you will start to notice braking problems, leading to a costly brake replacement.

If you are looking for Brake Replacement Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR Shop . Also find Oil Changes Milton-Freewater OR services with us.

What to do if Brake Rotors fail --

Too thin – If rotors wear too thin, they can no longer dissipate the heat caused by the braking process, causing overheating.
Too hot – As rotors become too hot, they produce gases and will warp and discolor. Brake fluid can also boil, causing a total failure in the braking system.

Out of round - Perfect brake rotors are smooth and flat, shaped like a dinner plate. If they start to warp, they resemble a wavy potato chip. If consistently overheated, rotors can develop deep scars. A difference as small as .001 inch off-center can be felt in the pedal.

Any of the problems above can create hazardous issues, and a brake replacement is a definite must.

Failing Brake Rotors!

As part of a brake service, your mechanic will first measure the rotor's minimum thickness and then inspect the run-out. If the rotor is not completely worn down and still meets certain safety specifications (your mechanic will know what these are), it may be resurfaced and reinstalled. At the very least, they will need to be replaced. Otherwise, a complete brake replacement will be necessary.

For safety and confidence in your vehicle's stopping performance, don't skimp or cut corners on a professional brake service.

Diesel Fuel Injection Service Specialist Offers Biodiesel Facts!

First, you may be asking, "What is Biodiesel?" Biodiesel is a renewable, clean-burning diesel replacement that is made from a diverse mix of feedstocks, including recycled cooking oil, soybean oil, and animal fats. It is reducing U.S. dependence on foreign petroleum, creating jobs, and improving the environment. Because it meets strict technical fuel quality and engine performance specifications, it can be used in existing diesel engines without modification, using the same principle as diesel fuel injection service. Fresh biodiesel which meets the ASTM quality standard is an innovative and highly recommended product, covered by all major engine manufacturers' warranties.

If you are looking for quality Diesel Fuel Injection Milton-Freewater OR than find our Wentland Automotive Service Milton- Freewater OR shop. Meet our Brake Repair Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

What are some Facts?

Even with less than a decade of commercial-scale production, the industry is proud of its careful approach to growth and strong focus on sustainability.

    * It is the first and only EPA-designated Advanced Biofuel in commercial-scale production across the country, increasing from about 25 million gallons in the early 2000s to almost 1.1 billion gallons in 2012.

    * There are currently about 200 biodiesel plants across the country with a registered capacity to produce some 3 billion gallons of fuel.

    * The industry supported some 50,000 jobs last year in a variety of sectors (from manufacturing to transportation, agriculture and service), generating billions of dollars in GDP, household income and tax revenues.

    * According to the EPA, biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 57 percent – making it one of the most practical and cost-effective ways to address concerns about a clean environment.

Why choose to use Biodiesel?

    * It is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources

    * It has lower emissions compared to petroleum diesel.

    * It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar.

    * It is produced domestically in the U.S. with natural resources, decreasing our dependence on imported fuel, while contributing to our own economy.

Transmission Service Tips: Prevent Transmission Repair!

Automobiles are generally built these days to provide many miles of service. However, you will eventually start experiencing shifting problems if you keep your vehicle long enough. The transmission is one of the most important components of your automobile. It's main function is to carry the engine's power to the drive axle by using different gears. Without these gears helping the engine rotate at different speeds, the car would only go forward in one gear. To help prevent an untimely and costly transmission repair, make sure you follow the transmission service schedule recommended in the owner's manual.

If you are looking for Transmission Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland  Diesel Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR . Meet us for Engine Repair Milton-Freewater OR to have safe driving.

Prevent Transmission Repair with these Four Tips:

  • Never shift into Reverse or Park while the engine is running at high RPMs, or until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. This could eventually result in a major transmission repair.
  • Have the fluid level and quality checked on a regular basis. Vehicles with a dipstick will need to be checked by a qualified mechanic. If the fluid level is too low, there may be a leak that will require a transmission repair. Don't let a small leak turn into a bigger leak!
  • Change the fluid as recommended in your owner's manual or when it becomes too dark (more brown than red) or dirty.
  • Replace the fluid with the same type as specified in the owner's manual or on the dipstick.
  • In many cars, damage can occur if towed with the traction wheels on the road. When towing a heavy trailer, consider installing an additional fluid cooler and change the fluid more often. Consult your owner's manual for the correct towing procedures.

NOW THAT'S EASY! Proper transmission service prevents transmission repair!

For professional advice about transmission repair, consult our ASE Certified Technicians at Wentland Diesel Service, the Diesel Fuel Injection Specialists, by calling 541-938-3875 or go on-line at http://www.wentlanddiesel.com/ for more information about transmission service. Got a Worn-out Truck? You Need A Quality Truck Service!

The hot days of summer may have taken a toll on the operating condition of your truck. It's not too early to start thinking about truck service for the fall and winter. Hard starting, no start, blue/white exhaust smoke and rough running are signs that you need the services of a qualified truck repair technician.

If you are looking for quality Truck Service Milton-Freewater OR than find our Wentland Automotive Service Milton-Freewater OR Shop. Meet our Car Battery Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

Here are a few truck service tips to keep in mind:

    * First, treat your fuel with a good quality winter additive to lower its pour and cold filter plug points. A performance enhancer will boost the cetane number to improve cold weather starting. Our additive of choice is STANADYNE PERFORMANCE FORMULA, proven and recommend by engine manufacturers.

    * Second, change the fuel filter element and check it frequently.

    * Third, consider an in-line fuel heater.

    * Fourth, an engine block heater is a good idea when the temperatures drop below the teens.

    * Finally, if your fuel does gel and clog your fuel filter, in an urgent situation, an alcohol additive may be added to your fuel tank and filter element. The fuel should start flowing again in a few minutes. Warning, heavy alcohol use may damage non-metal materials in the fuel system.

If you are having starting problems with your diesel engine, there are three other issues to consider:

    * Cranking speed. A diesel engine should crank at approximately 200 RPM to start properly. Check the condition of the batteries, the battery cables and the starter.

    * Compression. Diesel engines rely on the heat generated from compressing the air in the combustion chamber to ignite the fuel. If the compression is low, an engine which uses glow plugs to start when the engine is cold may experience a hard-start condition when the engine is warm.

    * Fuel system. If the fuel pump is weak or if the injectors are faulty, the engine may be hard to start. Hard starting may be the first sign that the fuel injectors are beginning to fail.

The Truth About Oil Changes!

Are you hearing contradictory information floating around about engine oil, what kind to use, and how often should it be changed? Many auto mechanics are no longer absolute on the 3,000-mile oil change tradition. They do agree however, that vehicle owners should follow two rules for determining when to have an oil change service:

    * Follow the recommended interval as listed in the owner's manual.
    * When the "oil change" light appears.

If you are looking for quality Oil Change Milton-Freewater OR than find our Wentland Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR shop. Meet our mechanics for Car Repair Milton-Freewater OR to have safe driving.

With today's advanced engine technology and oil chemistry, the recommended interval for oil changes has lengthened considerably. Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, that interval could be anywhere between 5,000 and 15,000 miles. Take time to read your manual!

Is an Oil Change necessary before a long road trip?

That's a good question! There are two obvious answers!

    * BEFORE: If your vehicle will reach the mileage or time interval for the required oil change during your trip, you will want to change it before you head down the road. You don't want to have any problems in a strange town.
    * AFTER: If the time for an oil change won't occur until after your road trip (taking into account all the extra miles on your trip), don't worry about changing it before starting out.

A word to the wise:

Make sure that all the systems of your vehicle are operating at peak efficiency before starting out on your summer road trip. As you make your vacation plans, schedule that needed oil change or other maintenance service a good week before leaving. It can be risky having service work performed just before a trip. For example, the drain plug may not be tightened properly and the vibration of the road loosens it and you end up leaving a trail of oil.

Remember: Regular oil changes are necessary to prevent engines from wearing out prematurely. It is money and time well spent to guarantee your vehicle's optimum performance for many, many more miles of use.

Looking for quality oil changes? Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Wentland Diesel Service by calling 541-938-3875 or go on-line at http://www.wentlanddiesel.com/ for more information. Our auto shop provides car and truck repair, including diesel service, to the vehicle owners in Milton-Freewater, OR, Walla Walla, WA, Pendleton, OR and surrounding areas.

Automotive Service Tips: Prevent unexpected Automotive Repair!

For peace of mind as you plan for a summer vacation, make sure to schedule a "pre-trip" automotive service. This will possibly prevent an unexpected automotive repair out down the road.

If you are looking for Transmission Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our wentland Diesel Automotive Service Milton-Freewater OR . Meet our Car Air Conditioner Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

Consider these tips for automotive service before starting out:

Vehicle Loading -- Virtually all late model motor vehicles are equipped with a sticker located on the driver's door or pillar. That sticker determines maximum vehicle capacity, which means the weight of the vehicle along with the combined weight of passengers and cargo. Don't exceed the recommended load capacity.

Tires -- On the same sticker is also a tire pressure chart. Be sure to check all tires and make certain they are inflated properly. Tire tread depth should also be inspected. If tires are worn to a point where less than 2/32-inch of the tread remains, or if the cord or fabric is showing, it's time to replace the tires. Don't forget to check the spare at the same time to ensure it isn't damaged.

Lights & Horn -- Inspect all exterior and interior light functions. If any bulbs are burned out, and you are unable to replace them yourself, take your vehicle to your automotive service center for help. You also want to make sure the horn works properly.

Windshield Wipers -- Test the wiper operation as well as the condition of the wiper blades. Replace them if they are streaking or squeaking to make sure you have clear visibility in stormy weather.
Parking Brake -- Test the parking brake with the engine running, transmission in drive and your foot on the brake. With the parking brake engaged slowly release the foot brake. If your vehicle moves forward, the parking brake is not adequate.

Car Jack & Tools -- Make sure you have the appropriate tools and car jack in the trunk (and that they are in good working order) for changing flats, etc.

Following an inspection, make sure to have an automotive repair to take care of any deficient or broken items. Even though you can never guarantee that the unexpected may take place, you will at least have done your part to be prepared.

The 3 C’s of Diesel Fuel Injection!

Today's diesel vehicles are cleaner and many times more sophisticated than they were a generation ago. Service for these new generation engines requires specialized training and the right technical support from diesel system and component manufacturers. Hard starting, no start, blue/white exhaust smoke and rough running are signs that a diesel fuel injection service is needed by a qualified technician.

If you are looking for quality Diesel Fuel Injection Milton- Freewater OR than find our Wentland Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR Shop. Meet our Car Repair Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

To help you understand a little more about the complexities of diesel fuel injection problems, here are 3 facts to consider:

    * Cranking speed. A diesel engine generally needs to crank at approximately 200 RPM to start properly. Things to check are: the condition of your batteries, the battery cables and the starter.

    * Compression. Diesel engines rely on the heat generated from compressing the air in the combustion chamber to ignite the fuel. If the compression is low, the heat is low as well. An engine which uses glow plugs to start when the engine is cold may experience a hard-start condition when the engine is warm if the compression is low.

    * Condition of the fuel system. If the fuel pump is weak or the conditions of the injectors are poor, the engine may be hard to start. On some fuel systems, hard-starting may be the first sign of a fuel pump that is failing. If the fuel tank is located lower than the diesel fuel injection pump, a leak in the fuel system may allow the fuel to drain back to the tank when the engine sets for several hours.

For any type of problem, it is important to obtain the assistance of a diesel fuel injection specialist for a reliable and quality diesel fuel injection service.

Auto Electrical Service: Two Important Components to Check!

If you are experiencing no-start problems, it's time to call your auto mechanic and ask what it means to have an auto electrical service, which typically includes starters and alternators. Even though most vehicles are still gas or diesel-powered, most automotive mechanical functions are dependent on electrical components. The electrical system in your vehicle is controlled by a complex arrangement of wires, sensors and computers, constantly communicating with each other through a computer. If this communication is broken, several components of your vehicle could have major problems, including starters and alternators.

If you are looking for quality Starters Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel & Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR. Also find Oil Change Milton-Freewater OR  with us.

Even though modern vehicles are more complex, with the proper equipment and today's advanced technology, electrical systems are more reliable and easier to diagnose and repair. This takes the guesswork out of auto electrical service, as you can depend on a skilled and certified auto technician with the right equipment to save you time and money spent in an auto shop.

There are two major components in your vehicle that could cause problems in your electrical system. An experienced auto technician will typically check them out during an auto electrical service:

    * Battery: The battery is crucial to the performance of your vehicle and could be the culprit of an electrical system problem. Cars with battery or electrical issues may have puzzling symptoms. A loose battery cable, a faulty wire or a dirty connection could appear to be a bigger problem than it really is. It could simply be that the alternator needs to be replaced if your battery isn't receiving or holding a charge.

    * Software: Your vehicle may just need a software update. As stated above, many of the components in today's vehicles, such as starters, alternators, and air conditioning systems, just to name a few, are controlled by computers. What may seem like a major auto electrical service could really just be a software issue.

Brake Repair: All Bent Out of Shape?

If you are feeling a wobble or pulsating sensation in the steering while driving, chances are the rotors in your brakes are warped and it will be necessary to schedule a brake repair at your local auto shop.

If you are looking for Brake Replacement Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland Diesel Auto Center Milton-Freewater OR . Meet us for Brakes Milton-Freewater OR to have safe driving.

What are the typical causes for rotors to warp? Rotors can become "warped" or have an uneven or high spot on the surface due to normal wear and tear of the brakes. They can also warp because of expansion and contraction of the metal disc rotor due to such conditions as driving through a puddle of water on the exit ramp after a long trip on the freeway, then applying the brakes. Warping can also be caused by severely worn-out brake pads that have been grinding metal to metal, cutting grooves in the rotor surface.

Is there a cure for this problem? A brake repair technician can remove the rotor to "true" it by shaving off a small layer to make the surface smooth again. However, there is a limit (this measurement is stamped on the rotor) as to how much of the material can be removed or shaved off. If the rotor is below minimum thickness specifications, it will have to be replaced.

What causes the vibration in the steering wheel? When the brakes are applied, the caliper and the brake pads squeeze the rotor which causes the car to stop. As the rotors spin, the pads will pulsate inside the caliper as they come in contact with the uneven spot on the spinning rotor. The pulsating will cause the wheel to shimmy or vibrate. The vibration is usually felt when applying the brakes in a panic-type situation at freeway speeds, and can also be noticed when coming to a full stop, like at a stop light.

Will a warped rotor or rotors cause damage to a vehicle's braking system? It can cause some damage or premature wear, but most importantly it can cause a safety issue due to loss of control and full stopping power, and also prevent the anti-lock braking system to not work correctly.

When a vehicle is taken in for a brake repair, tell your mechanic that there is a problem with the rotors. A visual inspection might not always determine that a rotor is warped and in need of truing.

Vehicle Got Slipping Problems? Fix it with Transmission Repair

For many vehicle owners, two words they really don’t want to hear are “transmission repair.” The most traumatic part of those two words is the looming financial outlay that typically accompanies this kind of vehicle service. This can be especially true if you have delayed in having your vehicle checked out by a professional mechanic and a small problem has gotten bigger. However, a transmission that fails unexpectedly can also be dangerous.

If you are looking for Transmission Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland  Diesel Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR . Meet us for Engine Repair Milton-Freewater OR to have safe driving.

A couple of major signs that will alert you of a failing transmission are shifting problems together with a check engine light that lights up. When you see these signs, it’s time to take your vehicle to an auto technician as soon as possible for a transmission service to prevent more serious problems from developing. Most vehicles require a transmission service at least twice a year in order to prevent a major transmission repair. A typical service consists of changing filters and filling up the level of fluid.

In addition to a regular scheduled transmission service, drivers should be careful to avoid hard accelerations. For manual vehicles, try to shift as smooth as possible. When a transmission service or a transmission repair does not correct slipping problems, your mechanic may suggest that the entire transmission be rebuilt or replaced. If you are the typical vehicle owner, don’t undertake this on your own. You might be able to check for leaks or a clogged filter, but only in order to provide specific information to your mechanic.

To sum it all up, if your vehicle is ‘out of gear,’ take it to a transmission repair center and leave it in the trained and skilled hands of a trusted professional.

Budgeting Tips for Truck Repair and Truck Service

Most vehicle owners do their best to budget for scheduled auto and truck service. What’s hard is planning for that unexpected family car or truck repair in these tight economic times. The truth is that our vehicles can stay on the road longer than ever with the proper schedule of car and truck service. That’s because of today’s improved vehicle design and manufacturing quality. But some of those same improvements also lead to higher auto or truck repair costs.

If you are looking for Truck Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our wentland Diesel Auto Repair Shop Milton-Freewater OR . Meet our Car Air Conditioner Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

However, let’s suppose that your truck is now paid for and you would like to keep it running for the next several years. Ask your local truck repair specialist to provide you with estimates of what it’ll cost to service and repair it over the next five years. The estimate should be based on where you live, the manufacturers’ recommendations, and the repair experience for your particular model. You will want to add in estimates for depreciation, financing, insurance, taxes and fuel costs. Of course these are just estimates – there’s no way to predict what will actually happen to the vehicle in your driveway, but it’s a good starting point. Whether the estimate is an average monthly cost of maintenance and repairs of about $50, or $100, even though it may sound like a lot, it’s not when compared to a new car payment. So, if you can set aside that fifty or one-hundred dollars a month, you’d go a long ways towards taking care of routine car or truck service and being prepared for the unexpected repairs that arise.

Some folks are afraid of what can go wrong with their older vehicle so they end up buying a new one. That’s fine if you really want a new ones, but if you properly maintain your older vehicle, you’ll save a lot of money on payments and insurance. It just makes good economic sense when times are tight.

What affects Oil Change Intervals?

The interval between oil changes relies on various factors. You may have received several recommendations as to when an oil change service is needed for your vehicle. How do you know which recommendation is correct? By understanding the factors that affect the cleanliness of your oil will help you make an informed decision. In a recent survey conducted by AAA, it was found that more than 50% of all motorists follow the wrong oil change schedule because they assume they typically drive in "normal" conditions, and not "severe."

If you are looking for quality Starters Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel & Automotive Service Milton-Freewater OR shop. Also find Oil Change Milton-Freewater OR  with us.

Which one are you -- "normal" or "severe?"

The first place to check as a reliable source for the answer is your owner's manual. Most vehicle manufacturers will show two sets of maintenance schedules, one for "normal" driving and one for "severe" driving.

    * For "normal" driving conditions, your owner's manual will probably recommend an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. This schedule is based on ideal driving conditions – driving short distances, never over the speed limit, level roads, no load, that kind of thing – something the average driver would be hard-pressed to accomplish.

    * For "severe" driving conditions, your owner's manual will typically recommend more frequent oil changes, including a filter change, about every 3,000 miles. If you are the average driver, frequently making short trips, driving in hot weather, stop-and-go traffic, or transporting items on a roof-top carrier, then your vehicle would be better off using the "severe" maintenance schedule for oil changes. You will find that most auto shops offer oil change coupons to make these frequent services more affordable for their customers.

Of course, if you don't drive many miles at all, you'll be able to get away with longer periods in between oil changes. The smart driver will err on the side of caution and follow a regular oil change schedule of about every 3,000 miles, thus enhancing the performance and longevity of your vehicle.

Auto Repair Services: What should you do about a flashing Check Engine light?

Oh no, my check engine light is on! If you've said that before, you know it's time to enlist the help of an auto repair mechanic. Schedule an appointment for diagnostic auto repair services as soon as possible. There could be a number of things going on under the hood--a major engine repair, or simply a gas cap that is loose. Whatever it is, you will want to take care of those two scary words illuminated on your dash—Check Engine.

If you are looking for Transmission Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our wentland Diesel Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR . Meet our Car Air Conditioner Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

Unfortunately, it seems that a Check Engine light problem usually ends up with professional auto repair time. But don't mortgage the house just yet. There are some fairly common issues that can make the "Check Engine" light come on. The good news is that these issues can be corrected without a lot of time or money

    * Loose gas cap -- Some cars measure how much pressure is building up inside the gas tank by tracking your driving style together with how much pressure is in the tank, then setting off an alarm if it varies a certain
percentage from the average. The sensor thinks something is wrong and triggers the Check Engine light. You can try to tighten the gas cap and then wait about a week. If the light hasn't gone out by then, call your auto repair specialist for help.

    * Wet Engine -- An electrical disturbance under the hood can cause a sensor to take a funny reading, triggering the Check Engine light. Even water dripping onto a spark plug wire can set it off. However, the most common occurrence is the vehicle owner who sprays his engine down at the high pressure car wash, shooting water into every crevice, triggering the light.

    * Bad spark plug wires -- As spark plug wires age and wear out, they may develop tiny cracks which can let little bursts of electricity out. This electricity was supposed to be going to a spark plug, and since it didn't, the engine will misfire slightly, meaning one of the spark plugs didn't spark enough, causing the Check Engine light to come on. If your spark plug wires are looking frayed and worn, schedule an auto repair service to check them out and have them replaced if necessary.

Wheel Alignment or Wheel Balancing? What’s the Difference?

Many people often get confused as to what service is actually needed when they hear the terms wheel alignment or wheel balancing. These conditions are actually miles apart with basically not much in common except a wheel, and that both conditions affect the forward motion and drivability of the vehicle.  Simply stated, a wheel alignment is a vital part of car maintenance  to keep your vehicle going straight down the road without drifting side to side. Wheel balancing will smooth out a vibrating or pulsating steering wheel caused by unbalanced tires.

If you are looking for Car Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our wentland diesel Auto Repair Shop Milton-Freewater OR. Also find Car Maintenance Milton-Freewater OR to keep your car up to date.

How do I know whether I need wheel alignment or wheel balancing?

The most common symptoms that signal that your vehicle needs a wheel alignment is...

    * Severe wear on the inside or outside edge of your tires; and
    * Drifting problems when you let go of the steering wheel.

However, there are a few other conditions that may cause the same results and require car repair:

    * low tire pressure
    * worn out brakes,
    * front end problems

Even though every vehicle has a unique setting established by the respective automaker for a specific alignment, i.e., factory default settings, these default settings will unfortunately be compromised due to the unevenness of the pavement, the crown of the highways, vehicle accidents, and daily driving in general.

Auto manufacturers recommend that you have a wheel alignment every time you have your tires replaced, notice uneven wear, or if the ball joints, tie rods or suspension has been replaced. However, if the front end of your car is under repair, hold off on an alignment until the new parts are replaced. A wheel alignment may be necessary after many types of vehicle repairs as they may interfere with the wheel alignment. There is no need to pay for a second alignment.

If you need expert advice on wheel alignment and/or wheel balancing, contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Wentland Diesel Service by calling 541-938-3875 or go on-line at http://www.wentlanddiesel.com/ for more information. 5 Warning Signs of a Needed Truck or Car Service

In order to keep your vehicle in optimum running condition, it requires regular truck or car service. There are particular warning signs and symptoms that indicate when a certain type of car repair is required.

If you are looking for Brake Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our wentland Diesel Auto repair Shop Milton-Freewater OR . Meet our Car Service Milton- Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

Here are a few warning signs to be on the lookout for:

   1. Leaking Fluids

If you notice leaking fluid, have it checked immediately. It's usually an indication that hoses have broken, gaskets have lost their seals or fluid containers have cracked or come unattached altogether. Leaks also pollute the environment.

   2. Poor Fuel Economy

If your vehicle has noticeably poorer gas mileage, it is usually an indication of poor engine performance. It may simply need a car service tune up or a carburetor or fuel line cleaning. If this is ignored it could lead to a more expensive truck or car repair to be fixed at a later time.

   3. Screeching Brakes

This is one of the most obvious warning signs that something is wrong. Take it to a professional car repair specialist. Typically, screeching noises usually come from brakes that are wearing out. Consider the way your brakes feel when you step on them. They should be easy to push and feel soft. Sometimes, the brakes may feel as if they are grinding, or they may cause you to stop with a jerk. In some instances, your brakes may feel mushy, or they may feel hard to push down. All these may be signs that a vehicle's brake system is not working properly and you should schedule a truck and car repair.

   4. Excessive Engine Noise and Vibration

A certain amount of vehicle vibration and shaking is typical with most cars and trucks. However, if it is excessive, it can be caused by wheels out of alignment or improper balancing of tires. Serious shaking and vibration is detrimental to the proper operation of your vehicle and can lead to other serious problems.

   5. Sluggish or Restrictive Gear Shifting

When you shift gears, they should shift almost instantly. When transmissions take longer than usual to shift from one gear to the other, it typically indicates a problem with the transmission. Transmission systems are typically expensive to repair and replace. Address this problem as soon as possible to avoid a more serious and costly truck or car repair.

Noticing any of the above problems? Visit the nearest truck and car service center. Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Wentland Diesel Service by calling 541-938-3875 or go on-line at http://www.wentlanddiesel.com/ for more information about truck and car repair. Engine Rebuild? What are your Choices?

When it comes to either keeping your vehicle with a major engine repair on the horizon or purchasing a new vehicle, the best choice for the economically conscious driver is an engine rebuild or installing a used one.

If you are looking for Brake Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR . Meet us for Engine Rebuild Milton-freewater OR to have safe driving.

What will it Cost?

The installation of a used engine is generally less expensive than an engine rebuild as it typically requires less labor. It doesn't have to be stripped all the way down to the bare short-block and head(s) when transferring parts, especially in lower-mileage examples. It won't have to be in the shop quite as long as used engines are typically sold with the accessory components attached. That is especially cost effective if there are other components in question that will require more than a basic engine service.

What kind of Quality is needed?

If money is not object, the quality of a brand new OEM replacement or a custom-built crate motor are your best choices. But, a used engine with low mileage should give many reliable miles of transportation with possibly just minor engine service.

Engine Repair Tips:

These tips will help an engine repair be a positive experience:

  • Obtain an engine of the exact make and model of your current vehicle.
  • Don't use an engine that doesn't meet acceptable standards. Ask a certified auto mechanic to inspect it to make sure it is compatible with your vehicle.
  • Select and understand the warranty that best meets your needs. It will be money well spent.

Your vehicle will provide you with outstanding performance, if you give consideration to following these tips. That's making good cents!

If you need help in making a decision as to the type of needed engine service, whether a minor engine repair or a major engine rebuild, contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Wentland Diesel Service by calling 541-938-3875 or go on-line at http://www.wentlanddiesel.com/ for more information. Car Tune Up: A New Year’s Resolution!

While it might seem overly cliché, the end of the holiday season always brings with it resolutions for the coming year. For many of us, 2013 presents a unique challenge as the economy continues to fight a stubborn financial crisis. Budgets are tight and, as a result, you'll probably be holding onto your current car a little longer than you expected. It's easy to overlook the small responsibilities as a vehicle owner, which includes a car tune up. We all know that a regular car tune-up and engine maintenance services are investments that pay off with improved fuel economy, longer engine life and cleaner air.

If you are looking for quality Tune up Car Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel  Auto Repair Shop Milton-Freewater OR . Also find Brake Repair Milton-Freewater OR services with us.

To help keep you up to date on your vehicle's needs, save you money, and keep you and your family safe in the New Year, we've suggested three resolutions below:

• Resolution #1 -- Schedule a tune up with a mechanic and know your maintenance history. Regardless of how well you think you know your vehicle, a well-trained, trustworthy mechanic can spot things ahead of time that you might miss. Taking the time to schedule a tune up with a good mechanic twice a year may seem obsessive, but preventative maintenance is cheap insurance. There are many components of an engine that require attention and maintenance. Having a quality tune up performed by a certified auto service center restore new life into your tired car or truck.

• Resolution #2 - Keep up with fluid and filter changes. Checking on your vehicle's fluids and filters are crucial to its longevity. While some fluids like brake fluid, clutch fluid and coolant may not require attention as often as oil or transmission fluid, they're just as important and are generally considered part of a tune up. Mark one day on your calendar each month to make sure all of your fluids are topped off and filters clean. It's quick, easy and can save you some serious repair dollars down the road.

• Resolution #3 - Address minor problems early. This is perhaps the easiest responsibility to overlook, but the potential consequences of doing so can be hazardous. It's easy to hear a strange noise in your vehicle and hope that it will go away. Unfortunately, there aren't any cars out there that can heal themselves. Don't put off minor maintenance or easy repair work, such as a car tuneup. Doing so can lead to larger problems and larger repair bills in the end. Schedule a tune up, fix what's wrong, and your car will last a lot longer.

A tip to remember: Keep all the documentation; being able to provide a potential buyer with all of your service records is a major buying incentive.
