Brake Replacement: Troubleshooting Brakes!

When your auto mechanic recommends a brake replacement, are you confident it is really true? How can he tell for sure that the master cylinder has failed? Or is he just trying to push a brake repair to other work being done on your car? Is he looking after your best interests and your safety, rather than taking you for a ride with a brake replacement?

If you are looking for Brake Replacement Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR Shop . Also find Oil Changes Milton-Freewater OR services with us.

So that you are more informed vehicle owner, here a few signs that the Master Cylinder is failing:

    * The brake pedal feels soft and squishy. As constant pressure is maintained on the pedal (like at a stop light), it will begin to sink to the floor as the brake fluid leaks internally to the master cylinder. This is called "extended travel." You may have to "pump" the pedal to regain normal pressure and keep the car from moving forward as the brakes slowly release. The red warning dash light should come on to indicate low fluid, or excessive movement "travel."

    * An external fluid leak could be possible. A mechanic should typically see a fluid leak during an under-hood inspection. The master cylinder usually has a plastic reservoir that holds the brake fluid, mounted with rubber grommets. These grommets can leak brake fluid that can be seen with the naked eye.

    * The metal brake lines can leak fluid. The metal lines attached to the master cylinder can leak fluid at the threaded connections, or from the internal O-rings. When this happens, the fluid will drip down the power brake booster (what the master cylinder is bolted to). This kind of leak usually leaves a tell-tale sign of blistering, bubbled paint.

Check out the following items if you experience any of the symptoms explained above:

    * Check brake fluid level and add more as needed;
    * Make sure the cap fits snuggly and is not leaking or shows obvious signs of past leakage;
    * Visually inspect for external fluid leaks;
    * Wipe away accumulated dirt and debris for ease of future inspections;
    * Have a brake inspection if more than 1 or 2 ounces is needed to top off the reservoir;
    * Don't put off any needed repairs or a brake replacement.

Make Regular Oil Changes A New Year’s Resolution!

For many people, the end of the holiday season is the time to make resolutions for the coming year. The New Year may present a challenge for many as the economy continues to fight stubborn financial problems. If your budget is tight, you may need to hold onto your current car a little longer than you expected. It's easy to overlook seemingly minor car care issues, such as regular oil change intervals.

If you are looking for Tune up Car Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Shop Milton-Freewater OR . Find Quality Oil Changes Milton-Freewater OR  for Long term Vehicle Maintenance.

Because owning a car or truck could be one of your largest investments, we have listed three resolutions to ensure your car will keep in top-running performance throughout 2014. Resolve to:

   1. Keep up with fluid and filter changes, including oil changes. Checking and replacing your vehicle's fluids and filters are important to the longevity of your car and interior comfort. While some fluids (like brake fluid, clutch fluid and coolant) may not require attention as often as oil changes or transmission flushes, they're just as important. Circle a day on your calendar each month to check all of your fluids and make sure they are at the correct levels. Follow your owner's manual for the recommended intervals for oil changes, or any of the other fluids and filters. It can save you some serious repair dollars down the road.

   2. Schedule two vehicle maintenace checkups during the year. Preventative maintenance is cheap insurance for a reliable vehicle. A well-trained, experienced auto mechanic can spot potential problems before they happen. Be sure to keep all your service records, including oil changes, as providing a potential buyer with maintenance documentation is a major buying incentive.

   3. Take care of small problems early. This is perhaps the easiest resolution to forget about, but the potential consequences can be costly, both in time and money. Putting off minor maintenance or easy repair work can result in larger problems and costly repair bills overall.

Remember: Don't procrastinate, repair what's wrong, have the appropriate services, including oil changes, and your car will last you for many more miles to come.
