Spending Too Much on Fuel? Truck or Auto Repair May Be Needed.

Summer is over and people are returning to their busy schedules of work and school. The prices for gas and diesel have stabilized a little (until the next holiday that is). However, most families would appreciate some auto repair tips that will help them save cash at the pump! The auto repair services and good-sense driving tips described below will not only help you keep money in your wallet, but also help keep our environment clean.

Ways To Increase Fuel Efficiency:

  • Replace air filters. Replace a dirty and clogged air filter as it causes your engine to work harder and your vehicle to become less fuel efficient.
  • Be serious about your truck and auto repair. Follow the manufacturer-recommended vehicle maintenance schedule for optimum operating performance.
  • Regular oil changes. Use the right oil with the proper oil viscosity.
  • Avoid idling. Turn the engine off if you have to sit more than a few minutes.
  • Watch the speed limit. Driving over 60mph generally increases the amount of fuel used. Using cruise control on the open highway will help maintain a steady speed and avoid unnecessary acceleration.
  • Use lower octane fuel. Buy the lowest octane appropriate for your vehicle unless it requires premium. Pricey premium doesn't boost fuel economy.
  • Don't "top off" the tank. Overfilling wastes cash on gas you won't use as the gas will slop and seep off.
  • Tighten the gas cap. A loose, missing, or damaged cap can cause you to lose up to 30 gals per year through evaporation.
  • Correct tire pressure. Underinflated tires create more resistance, making your engine work harder, reducing fuel mileage and tire life.
  • Basic engine service. A misfiring spark plug or a poorly running engine significantly reduces fuel efficiency.
  • Eliminate drag. Remove roof racks or bicycle racks when not being used, empty the trunk, and keep the proper wheel alignment and balancing.
  • Fuel Injector cleaning service. A clean fuel system restores performance and improves drivability, maximizes fuel economy and reduces vehicle emissions.
