Automotive Service: Your Vehicle is a Computer!

With the advancement of technology in today's modern vehicles, taking good care of your vehicle is becoming increasingly more complex. Professional automotive service is a must! The automotive industry is now classified as a "high-tech" industry. Vehicle owners understand that when it comes to automotive repair, their vehicle is significantly more high-tech than just a few years ago and thus requires highly-trained automotive technicians to take care of any automotive service.

Why is the automotive industry considered as "high-tech?" The Center for Automotive Research (CAR), a nonprofit research organization based in Ann Arbor, MI, published a report defined a "high-tech industry" as an industry sector that meets certain criteria and contains particular characteristics. For example, 10% or more of the industry's workforce is made up of technical employees, such as engineers. In CAR's summary, it stated that the automotive industry "leads the pack" when it comes to technological developments and applications.

Here are a few Interesting facts about the automotive industry:
  • Manufacturers spend an average of $1,200 on research and development for every vehicle manufactured worldwide.
  • Four times as many as just ten years ago, today's vehicles contain around 60 microprocessors.
  • 40% to 50% of the total cost of a vehicle is comprised of electronics (up from just 20% a decade ago).
  • More than 10 million lines of software code in a typical computer network are in each vehicle manufacturerd (over half the lines of code that reportedly run Boeing's 787 Dreamliner!)
  • Approximately 4,800 patents are granted to the automotive industry every year.
  • GM and Ford individually spend more money on research and development than either General Electric or Apple.
  • Five automakers (Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Daimler) are among the top 20 in all corporate research and development spending.
Because of the advanced technology and computerized systems, CAR's study further surmises that an automobile is the most complex purchase made by consumers.

Safe Summer Driving Includes Regular Oil Changes!

The hot days of summer are close at hand. If you haven't taken your vehicle in for an oil change at the recommended interval since the cold of winter, now is the time! An oil change service is also a good time to have other systems of the car checked out. Don't get caught out in the blistering heat with unexpected engine problems.

If you are looking for Truck Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel & Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR. Also find Oil Change Coupons Milton-Freewater OR  with us.

To make sure your vehicle can endure hot summer driving, here are some basic oil change facts:

  • Have regular oil changes. When oil is hot, it becomes thinner, which causes it to lose some of its cooling efficiency for the motor. Regular oil changes are crucial when it comes to protecting your motor against extreme changes in temperature.
  • The importance of viscosity. Viscosity is measured using two numbers and a letter. For example, 10W-40; the first number (10) refers to the thickness at cold temperatures (0ºFahrenheit), and the second number refers to the thickness at high temperatures (212º Fahrenheit.) The first number is crucial for the cold months of winter--make sure your engine is protected at startup.
  • The best oil for the best engine protection. Your selection will depend on the climate in which you live, compatibility with your vehicle, and your budget.
-- Synthetic - maintains a more consistent viscosity over a wide range of temperatures, but it is more expensive. It could be incompatible with certain older engines.

-- Premium conventional – natural oil with a higher quality for increased levels of protection.
-- Synthetic blends - a combination of both natural and synthetic, providing the benefits of synthetic without the higher cost.

To make sure your vehicle survives summer's hot temperatures, check your owner's manual for the correct type of oil. Your oil change specialist can also give you expert advice if you have any questions.
