It's that time of year when people are cleaning out closets, garages, and homes. Don't forget some spring cleaning for your
truck or automobile. Schedule a maintenance service, (formerly called tune up) for an inspection of the engine, to analyze your vehicle's overall
performance, and adjustments made to the operating systems as needed. The car or truck service checklist should include both preventative and restorative
engine assessment, with recommendations from your mechanic for any needed car or truck repair. Your mechanic should base these recommendations on the
age, mileage and the manufacturer recommendations for your specific vehicle.

An automobile or truck service should include an inspection of the following engine components:
- Spark plugs —
- What is the color of the insulator firing noses? They should be light tan or gray in an engine that is in good condition. Any other color could be the sign of an engine problem.
- Test the performance of the spark plugs. What is the color of the spark? Is it properly igniting the fuel?
- Check the wires to make sure they are not hard or cracked.
- Fuel pump and filter -- Make sure the pump is functioning properly and that the filter isn't clogged or dirty
- Fuel injectors -- Make sure that dirt or other deposits are not restricting the amount of fuel delivered to the engine and that there is no buildup affecting the spark plugs.
- Timing and idle -- Adjust as necessary.
- PCV — Make sure it isn't clogged or leaking.
- Points and condenser — They should be clean and operating properly.
There is not a one-size-fits-all car or truck service, but should be uniquely based on its age, the number of miles driven,
and its maintenance history. There may be a few other components your truck repair technician may want to inspect and analyze.
