Engine Rebuild? What are your Choices?

When it comes to either keeping your vehicle with a major engine repair on the horizon or purchasing a new vehicle, the best choice for the economically conscious driver is an engine rebuild or installing a used one.

If you are looking for Brake Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland Diesel Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR . Meet us for Engine Rebuild Milton-freewater OR to have safe driving.

What will it Cost?

The installation of a used engine is generally less expensive than an engine rebuild as it typically requires less labor. It doesn't have to be stripped all the way down to the bare short-block and head(s) when transferring parts, especially in lower-mileage examples. It won't have to be in the shop quite as long as used engines are typically sold with the accessory components attached. That is especially cost effective if there are other components in question that will require more than a basic engine service.

What kind of Quality is needed?

If money is not object, the quality of a brand new OEM replacement or a custom-built crate motor are your best choices. But, a used engine with low mileage should give many reliable miles of transportation with possibly just minor engine service.

Engine Repair Tips:

These tips will help an engine repair be a positive experience:

  • Obtain an engine of the exact make and model of your current vehicle.
  • Don't use an engine that doesn't meet acceptable standards. Ask a certified auto mechanic to inspect it to make sure it is compatible with your vehicle.
  • Select and understand the warranty that best meets your needs. It will be money well spent.

Your vehicle will provide you with outstanding performance, if you give consideration to following these tips. That's making good cents!

Car Tune Up: A New Year’s Resolution!

While it might seem overly cliché, the end of the holiday season always brings with it resolutions for the coming year. For many of us, 2013 presents a unique challenge as the economy continues to fight a stubborn financial crisis. Budgets are tight and, as a result, you'll probably be holding onto your current car a little longer than you expected. It's easy to overlook the small responsibilities as a vehicle owner, which includes a car tune up. We all know that a regular car tune-up and engine maintenance services are investments that pay off with improved fuel economy, longer engine life and cleaner air.

If you are looking for quality Tune up Car Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel  Auto Repair Shop Milton-Freewater OR . Also find Brake Repair Milton-Freewater OR services with us.

To help keep you up to date on your vehicle's needs, save you money, and keep you and your family safe in the New Year, we've suggested three resolutions below:

• Resolution #1 -- Schedule a tune up with a mechanic and know your maintenance history. Regardless of how well you think you know your vehicle, a well-trained, trustworthy mechanic can spot things ahead of time that you might miss. Taking the time to schedule a tune up with a good mechanic twice a year may seem obsessive, but preventative maintenance is cheap insurance. There are many components of an engine that require attention and maintenance. Having a quality tune up performed by a certified auto service center restore new life into your tired car or truck.

• Resolution #2 - Keep up with fluid and filter changes. Checking on your vehicle's fluids and filters are crucial to its longevity. While some fluids like brake fluid, clutch fluid and coolant may not require attention as often as oil or transmission fluid, they're just as important and are generally considered part of a tune up. Mark one day on your calendar each month to make sure all of your fluids are topped off and filters clean. It's quick, easy and can save you some serious repair dollars down the road.

• Resolution #3 - Address minor problems early. This is perhaps the easiest responsibility to overlook, but the potential consequences of doing so can be hazardous. It's easy to hear a strange noise in your vehicle and hope that it will go away. Unfortunately, there aren't any cars out there that can heal themselves. Don't put off minor maintenance or easy repair work, such as a car tuneup. Doing so can lead to larger problems and larger repair bills in the end. Schedule a tune up, fix what's wrong, and your car will last a lot longer.

A tip to remember: Keep all the documentation; being able to provide a potential buyer with all of your service records is a major buying incentive.

Got Slipping Gears? You need a Transmission Repair!

Although there is a big difference between a transmission service and a transmission repair, until the problem can be isolated and defined, vehicle owners tend to hold their breath! The most breathtaking aspect for most of us is the potential financial outlay that typically accompanies a transmission repair. And that cost usually increases if you choose to prolong having the vehicle checked out by a professional. Worse-case scenario, it can be dangerous if your transmission fails.

If you are looking for Transmission Repair Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over with our Wentland  Diesel Auto Center Milton-Freewater OR . Meet us for Engine Rebuild Milton-Freewater OR to have safe driving.

Most modern vehicles alert drivers when a transmission begins to fail with unusual shifting symptoms or possibly a check engine light that comes one and won’t go off. When these appear, it’s time for an inspection performed by an auto technician as soon as possible. To prevent a premature and major transmission repair, most vehicle manufacturers recommend a transmission service at least once a year depending upon the miles driven and the type of miles. A typical transmission service consists of changing the transmission filters and fluid.

In addition to regular scheduled service, drivers should be careful to avoid hard accelerations. Drivers with manual vehicles should be careful to shift gears smoothly. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn’t seem to matter how conscientious a driver is in servicing and driving properly, transmissions sometimes wear out and fail, it’s just their nature.

If a (relatively) simple transmission repair does not fix the problem, your mechanic may suggest an entire transmission rebuild or replacement. Obviously, this is not something that a typical vehicle owner can undertake. Some vehicle owners may be able to check for leaks or pay attention to strange shifting patterns or noises, but this should only be done in order to provide needed information to your mechanic. So, if your gears are slipping, get to a transmission repair center and leave it in the trained and skilled hands of a trusted professional.

Oil Changes: Can I use Recycled Oil in my Vehicle?

Why is there such mystery surrounding motor oil? This is due to the fact that motor oil is a complex, heavily researched, continuously improved, and extensively tested product. To us humans, it all looks feels, smells and, we assume, tastes the same, but engines can tell the difference in the various weights, quality, and freshness.

If you are looking for quality Tune ups Milton-Freewater OR your search can be over now with our Wentland Diesel & Auto Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR shop. Also find Oil change Milton-Freewater OR services with us.

Here are a few facts about the use of recycled versus new for oil changes:

    *      Recycled is NOT inferior in quality to new—
o The refining processes today are the same for recycling as used for crude refining. These newer refining techniques yield high quality base oil that is equal to crude refining. Many brands now use the highest quality of recycled oil and formula for engine performance that exceeds the specification set by the automotive industry

    *      Recycled does NOT void engine warranties —
o The use of recycled products that have been certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) have been approved by almost all major vehicle manufacturers. Because the protection of name-brand recycled oils exceeds all API specifications, they can be safely used and will not void engine warranties.

    *      Recycled does NOT require more frequent oil changes —
o Because recycled oil has the same performance and protection qualities as regular, vehicle owners can follow their vehicle’s oil change intervals just like for all other kinds of oil.

    *      Recycled can be mixed with regular—
o Because the characteristics of recycled are the same as new, and are fully compatible, the two can be safely mixed.

    *      You can switch to a recycled motor oil—
o It is generally not a problem if it is necessary to change from regular to recycled and back.

A Tip to Remember about Oil Changes: Just a few dollars and a few minutes every 90 days or 3,000 miles will keep your vehicle driving smoothly down the road.

If you’re looking for affordable and quality oil changes, contact our ASE-certified technicians at Wentland Diesel Service by calling 541-938-3875 or go on-line at http://www.wentlanddiesel.com/ for more information and to find our oil change coupons. Light Truck Service: What’s the Story on Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)?

Whether you call them trucks or pickups, these open-bed vehicles are the workhorses of the automotive market and they deserve the best light truck service as possible. Whether your diesel truck is compact or full-size, make sure you find a diesel specialist in light truck repair to keep your “pride and joy” running and serving you well as long as possible.

If you are looking for quality Truck Repair Services Milton-Freewater OR than find our Wentland Auto Service Milton-Freewater OR Shop. Meet our Muffler Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your  truck  problems.

As part of the service on your diesel, you should be aware of a couple of issues regarding Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).

What is Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)?

DEF is a non-toxic solution of 32.5% urea in de-ionized water. This fluid is sprayed into the exhaust stream of diesel vehicles to cause a chemical reaction and break down dangerous NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water. This system is called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and can be found on many diesel pickups and SUVs. DEF is not a fuel additive and never comes into contact with diesel. It is stored in a separate tank, typically with a blue filler cap.

What will happen if my truck runs out of DEF?

The EPA requires vehicle manufacturers to design vehicles to ensure they cannot run without DEF. Before a truck's DEF tank runs empty, a series of alerts will appear on the dashboard, alerting the driver. Generally, when the DEF tank level drops below 10%, an amber warning lamp will light, at 5% this lamp starts flashing, and below 2.5%, it will be a solid amber warning light. If a truck is allowed to run out of DEF completely, the engine's power is reduced, limiting the vehicle’s speed to 5 mph, together with a solid red warning light.

What is the shelf life of DEF?

Generally, DEF has a shelf life of two years. However, if the fluid is exposed to direct sunlight, or if it is in warm temperatures for extended periods of time, the shelf life will be considerably reduced. DEF packaging is normally labeled with an expiration date.

Is DEF corrosive?

DEF is not toxic, harmful or dangerous. In fact, of all the fluids used in a truck, such as diesel, engine oil, brake fluid, antifreeze and windscreen wash, DEF is the least hazardous. However, it is corrosive for some metals. Ask your DEF supplier for more information about the properties of this fluid.

Diesel Fuel Injection: A History Lesson

In the beginning, gas powered vehicles used a carburetor to get gas into the engine. This worked well, but when fuel injection came along, things changed quickly. Fuel injection, especially electronic fuel injection, produces fewer emissions and greatly increases mileage.

If you are looking for quality Diesel Fuel Injection Milton- Freewater OR than find our Wentland Auto Repair Milton-Freewater OR Shop. Meet our car repair Milton-Freewater OR Mechanic to solve any of your car problems.

A fuel injector shoots exactly the right amount of fuel into the combustion chamber. Over time, electrically activated injections, which sprayed a metered amount of fuel into the engine, became the standard in the diesel fuel injection service industry.

With diesel engines making a comeback, there has been more focus in recent years on diesel fuel injection efficiency. Diesels utilize an injector that sprays fuel directly past the glow plug into the combustion chamber. This technology results in a more complete burning of the diesel fuel, and thus better efficiency and less smoke discharged into the atmosphere.

There are a myriad of variations to diesel fuel injection systems. There are electric, mechanical, systems with one oxygen sensor, and systems with four oxygen sensors…but the basics of diesel fuel injection remain the same.

It’s time to have a diesel fuel injection service before winter is here in full-force. Our ASE-certified technicians at Wentland Diesel recommend going into winter with a fresh fuel filter. Call or stop by Wentland Diesel and let us change your fuel filter. $32.80 plus parts on most light trucks through the month of October.
